Evan M. Semoff, Jr.
For almost 65 years, you were most likely to find Evan M. Semoff, Jr. behind a barber chair at Semoff’s Barber Shop in New Cumberland. Evan joined his father at the family-owned business while still in high school, then took over as owner/operator in the 1960s. Evan enjoyed holding court at the shop, knew his customers by name, and had a knack for making each customer feel as important as a small-town celebrity. You could almost feel him swelling with pride in his final years cutting hair alongside his son, Chris, and grandson, Zak!
Evan joined the U.S. Army and served his country in the demilitarized zone during the Korean War. After returning home, he focused his efforts on raising a family, supporting the community, and of course, giving great haircuts! When he wasn’t behind the barber’s chair, he was probably on the golf course. He was an avid and skilled golfer, belonging to the West Shore Country Club, Riverview Golf Club, and the Country Club of Harrisburg throughout the years.
Evan’s life touched hundreds, if not thousands, of lives. His legacy shines through his family, friends, and everyone who met him on the course or in the barber’s chair. Evan’s wife, Marian, is forever grateful to the physicians and nurses at Penn State Health Heart & Vascular Institute for their superb care of Evan in his final years. All proceeds from the tournament benefit research at the Institute.
